Virtual Production Residency: Terra Cruda

Funded by Galway Culture Company, Galway City of Film, and Ardán, Cordula Hansen from XYZ Technical Art Services and and Diego Hernandez from Argonauts XR were invited to Galway for Virtual Production Creative Residencies. The residencies were hosted and supported by the University of Galway, Cue One Studios, and CT Solutions. 

The goal of the residency was to facilitate the sharing of expertise between Virtual Production filmmakers in Ireland and abroad, to encourage collaboration between these practitioners, and to support creative and professional development for the artists involved. 

We used our experience with 3D digitisation and photogrammetry to capture environments and locations around the Galway area, documenting the influences of environments on the inner lives of a resident craftsperson and his work.

During the creative residency we collaborated with local practitioners in setting up a simple virtual production stage conducting some filming tests, while also running workshops for filmmakers in Galway.  After postproduction, we delivered a short experimental film utilising the footage from the residency.
