Music Video “Lichterloh”
Virtual Production Support
2025
Wave Film directed the visually striking music video “Lichterloh” for Slaughterra (2012-2025), the final release in the band’s emotional “Verloren in der Zeit” trilogy. Known for their dark, atmospheric style and introspective themes, Slaughterra’s work often explores mental health and personal growth – concepts that “Lichterloh” brings to life through symbolic imagery, moody lighting, and dramatic environments. The video’s surreal, otherworldly aesthetic made it an ideal candidate for virtual production, enabling the team to blend practical and digital elements seamlessly.
XYZ Technical Art Services provided comprehensive virtual production support, ensuring the video’s ambitious visual storytelling was realized efficiently and creatively. Our team collaborated with Wave Film to configure and optimize Unreal Engine environments for live compositing, allowing the director and cinematographer to visualize and adjust scenes in real time. We offered on-set and remote support, troubleshooting challenges and adapting to creative changes as they arose, enabling the team at Wave Film to leverage virtual production tools for maximum creative impact.

“Lichterloh”’s highly stylized, emotionally charged visuals, marked by dramatic lighting and symbolic landscapes, demanded the flexibility and real-time control that virtual production provides. Using Unreal Engine, the team could iterate quickly, experiment with surreal environments, and integrate digital and practical elements without the logistical constraints of traditional filming. This approach not only elevated the video’s cinematic quality but also honored the band’s farewell trilogy with a visually stunning and technically ambitious finale.
“Cordula and Shay from XYZ supported us both technically and creatively during our first virtual production in Unreal. Throughout the process, they shared their expertise with great patience, always solution-oriented, and as true partners – whether in tutorial sessions via video call or in person at the studio. For us, XYZ is definitely the first port of call whenever a client asks about VFX or comes up with ideas that without virtual production would require sending our team halfway around the world!”
